Dear fellow Diggers,
I've noticed a lot of people questioning my motives, so I just wanted to dispel some rumors and set the record straight.
Yes, I made this video as an appeal to diggers to help me reach my Super Bowl goals. As a solo artist trying to self-promote I can only reach a limited audience, and being a fan of digg myself, I recognized the substantial power of the digg community.
However, that doesn't mean I made it all up. I wasn't paid to sing this, I'm not secretly signed to a record label, the only video camera I own is embedded in my computer and I *was* actually playing the guitar. I'm also not pretending that it's just a coincidence that the blog I linked to was part of my campaign. I love digg, I love making music, and I just thought this would be a fun way to combine the two and hopefully bring myself a little closer to achieving my dream of making music for a living.
I also realize that the intersection of digg users and MySpace users may be small, but hey, I'm just happy to be heard even if it doesn't mean getting more votes.
Above all else this video was supposed to be fun, so please enjoy it for what it is: a little song about Digg.

The only people who would question your motives are the ones who didn't take the time to listen or read anything, and those people shouldn't be outspoken if they didn't put in the effort anyway.

Kina, I was very glad to run across your video on Digg. Totally made my morning, and I sent it to a bunch of friends. Don't let bitter people get to you. And it was super smart for doing what you did. You focused on promoting yourself as artists need to and what came out of that revealed your honest talent in a cool song that entertained lots of people. This is promotions at its best :)
Don't worry about the naysayers. Most of Digg supports you and loved the music, hence why not one, but two diggs of your song made it to #1. Also, for more publicity, I'd recommend creating a Stickam account and doing mini e-concerts if you get time. Pretty girls with guitars are always propelled and all you'd have to do is play a few songs while chatting.
Anyway, good luck with everything, I really enjoy the music.
Very cool! I went to vote for you and couldn't figure out how to vote. Turns out the Doritos/MySpace site doesn't render the ballot in Firefox. I expect a Digger caught and reported this already. The site renders fine in IE 7.

kina, I'm so proud to know you! Digg is my boyfriend's favorite site EVER, and I finally joined to check out your song, and now I'm hooked on the site itself! So, along with any publicity you are getting from Digg, you are also introducing some of your friends to the awesomeness of the site! Happiness all around :)

You should ignore these type of questions. I watched the song about 23hrs ago when it was posted @TechCrunch. The "...Did you hear that awful sound? ... Another server’s down!.." part made me laugh.

Ah... this is serious. I'm well into my cups (drinking)... there are very few people's music that can reach me when I'm drinking and melancholy like this. I listen to the Everybodyfields a lot when I feel like this, but tonight, having seen you on digg today and watched your vid (and voted!) I'm listening to your music pretty much on repeat. It reaches me, speaks to me on a very visceral level - that deep melancholy that comes from being broke at christmas, wondering how you're going to pay your bills, drinking, and thinking. You're wonderfully talented. I've been playing guitar and other assorted instruments for 22 years, I recognize when someone really has IT. (I don't) Of course I will cheer you all the way to the superbowl, buy your albums either online or in the record store, and be a fan, but if you don't win the commercial popularity contest that is the superbowl contest, don't give up. You're unreal. I'm a blues man, and your music speaks to me. You've got the gift, the magic touch, that special talent for writing lyrics that touch the soul and the voice to give them life. I can't really put into words how your music makes me feel so just promise all of us, your new fans (many from digg) that you will keep at it until we can buy your music at any record store. Digg users are just not use to getting attention from girls, it makes them suspicious. Anyway, I think that all has past now, I’m sure most digg users love your music. I know I checked out some of your other songs and have really been enjoying them. You really have been promoting yourself the Web 2.0 way, ex. your music is available from the iTunes store. I think that proves that you are a digg user, and even if you weren’t it shouldn’t matter since you have the talent.
Hope you win the Crash the Super Bowl contest, you definitely have the talent and looks to make it all the way.

There's no reason you should feel as though you've done anything out of the ordinary. Keep it up young lady, you've got some moxie and that's what counts! Two days later and more than 100,000 people know your name! You couldn't pay for that kind of marketing. Stay the course and let your talent guide the way. If Doritos doesn't see the need to showcase your talent and make sure to build anticipation in all those viewers, someone in their advertising department will be looking for a new job come Monday morning.
hey, you're gonna be famous soon.. famous people get a LOT of criticism (so i hear).
learn to sift out all the ridiculous comments (e.g. when they say you're not actually playing the guitar), and never let them discourage you. always keep in mind: for every person that doesn't like you, there's about 25-100 (heh, just my honest estimate) that are on your side. so shrug those negative perceptions off and keep doin what you do--cuz you're doin great.
that said, good job with the friendly and honest clarification on this post (it shows that you probably didn't need me to say any of this). i gather from this post that you seem like a very respectable and likable person.
oh, and one more thing. after having read all these comments in response to this post, you probably have an idea of how many sanctimonious fans you'll also accumulate. learn to live with us too =)
Pretty much exactly as I assumed, if anything, using digg to get the word out was clever more than anything, and deserves even more respect because of that.

Your music gives me goose bumps, no songs have had that impact on me except a few, the kooks - naive >_<.
