Remember to remember

Today I went to a wake. I saw a lot of people that were very special and important to me throughout my childhood, and while it made me sad that it took such an event to bring them back into my life after all this time, it really brought back some wonderful memories. It's been a very emotional day, much of which I have been stuck inside my head, going back in time, remembering the moments and scenes and people that defined my childhood. One thing that I found very beautiful is that the family called the gathering today a "celebration of life." While the sadness of it all could not possibly be ignored, it was really focused on honoring his memory and his life and being with people that are important to you.

I'm sorry to get all heavy on you like that, but I couldn't not mention it. It seemed too important.

In other news, one more day. Excited? Scared? Ready??

@j.c.
thanks for the lovely poem :)
@misa
it was a purple post-it, but you're right, white is way easier on the eyes. but at the time i was too lazy to look for a white piece of paper... haha.

Aww, my condolences to others who lost pets recently. My parrot who I grew up with died a month ago unexpectedly. It sucks to lose a friend of 21 years like that.

Kina, this song is quite "fierce" as all the kids today would say. Of the songs of yours that I've heard, my favorites (in no specific order)are probably

Down and Gone
Memory
Message From Your heart

Memory is beautiful, poetic, and haunting, and I feel like there could be an astoundingly good music video for it.

I am very impressed by your masterful songwriting.

Hi Kina,

I'm so sorry for your loss, it's lovely that it was a celebration of life for you, your family and friends. Times like this often allow you to appreciate the people who have contributed, in one way or another, to who you are today - glad it was a more of a positve experience in that sense.

Take care,

Turon

Hi Kina,

Just stumbled upon your blog a few days ago and I finally decided to leave a comment.

You are very very talented and I wish you all the best and really hope your careers kicks off. I don't say this lightly as, well frankly I'm not really a music buff and I could't care less for all the Britney Spearses out there.

My favourite song so far is "Stay just a little" and the infamous "Gotta Digg". I could listen to those two forever.

Also I'd like to buy your music (shocker cause I never buy music), but having read you burn and ship those cds yourself and me being from Europe I'm not sure how easy it is or if it even pays off for you. Perhaps in the future you could consider some form of download delivery (try to get on Amazon or something).

Anyways, sorry for the long post, wish you all the best and hope you keep your blog forever ;-)

Hi Kina,

After listening to your song today,I feel quite sad for you and everyone else for their loss.
Be strong people!

I really like the song, it's very touching, it gives such a big impact on people who listen to it. Once again it proves that you're gifted in singing and also in writing songs.

Thank you very much for granting my request, You really make my day. Well, everyday you make my day, but today is very special for me :)

I'm all excited and ready for tomorrow, cheer up, you'll make it, I know you will.

Owh, and Malaysia says "HELLO!" to you, too! Make sure you have a good sleep tonight. Bye.

@chris Kina's cds are available on itunes if you want to download them.

Ahh, thats good, don't like itunes and their drm infested stuff though :-(

Anyways I found you can buy the CD's at a website called "CD Baby" in mp3 or CD format. Is that site endorsed by Kina or are they ripping you off (never heard of that site) - obviously I want Kina to get the money and some corporation?

this is the reason why i prefer to order cds directly on kina's website.
It take more times, but i'm sure that everything will be for kina and not for steeve jobs.

Thanks Kina for being so genuine with us. My condolences and prayers go out to the family members and those effected by the lost.

Hope all goes well tomorrow, I'll be staying up until midnight to see. Myspace probably won't update though until after that...

@ the people who were asking
I bought my Kina CDs at her official website: http://www.kinagrannis.com/media.php. I'm not sure about CD Baby, Kina might be selling her music also through it.

Chris,

CD Baby is in fact okay with Kina. They're actually the company that got her songs on iTunes. They charge more than she does on her website, but since she has to ship them herself (and burn/stamp them if she hasn't already) you may get it faster through CD Baby. Then again, she does get a bigger cut of the proceeds if you order through her. :)

Trials are a part of life, Kina. You and everyone else grieving this loss have my deepest sympathies. Stay strong. For some unknown reason, today's song called to mind a cover I would love hear you perform: "Walk Away" by Ben Harper. It, too, is an incredibly haunting and emotional song. If you get around to playing that I would be very happy.

Your blog is addictive. Word.

btw, a short movie review if I may. Juno=Amazing!

@ Misa/sassafrassy,
I figured that myself, that's why I ordered through the website (and I'm quite patient).

@Kina, Misa, and the rest of the family: My condolences on your loss. I actually lost an uncle in the last week myself. Didn't go to a wake since it was a weird situation I won't explain here, but it does make you think about what's important.

Hey Kina.
Great song. I really like the variety in your vocals across all these songs. (ps. do you use a mic for these videos? your voice sounds especially clear. but maybe that's the soundboard/table thing behind you.)

Sorry to hear about your loss, but stay chipper. Life is remarkably like a book that opens and ends, and that can't be too sad.
