first i just want to say again that i am obsessed with all of you. jeez!
two videos, one day!? crazy, no? my cousin sent me that video from the viewing party they all had last sunday and every time i watch it i start crying. i have the best family in the world. i really think so. they are all so supportive and amazing and excited for me. THANK YOU to all my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents. mwahhhh!
ok--i need all of your help and opinion here. so i'm trying to streamline my online "presence" if you will. the main websites i have are kinagrannis.com (soon to have a makeover), twoweeks (and more importantly, the blog), myspace, and youtube. it's just so fragmented and i'd imagine a little difficult for people just discovering my music, because they dont know where to go. myspace and youtube are of course essential and will continue on. i've had suggestions though to move THIS blog community over to my website kinagrannis.com. it'd be the same deal, but through that one, and no longer entitled twoweeksforkina. i wouldn't delete this blog because it is way to special, but it'd be more of a memento and less of anything that is ever updated.... on the one hand i know that combining my sites and refocusing on my main website makes a lot of sense, on the other hand, i get all sentimental about this blog and it seems sad to leave it. really though, nothing much would change except the location and design of the blog. am i being silly? how do you all feel about that, because that's what really matters?
i wonder how many kina blog lurkers there are out there?

Consolidating your various sites seems like a great idea... My vote would probably be for kinagrannis.com consolidation. Mainly because anyone that would be interested in your music after seeing you would end up looking you up would hit your website as the first result on google, and might not even bother with the other search results after seeing your "official" site.

I discovered you a couple days after the Super Bowl...I was on Spike.com watching the commercials I had missed and I came across the Doritos one...
My first reaction was 'Wow, she's beautiful!', but then I listened to the song and was so entranced by it. That's only happened 3 or 4 other times that I can think of (the last time being V. Carlton's 1000 Miles). I immediately Googled your name and found your websites, and was SO happy to be able to watch the full video so I could hear the entire song! It's really a gorgeous tune.
Since then I've watched all of your YouTube vids leading up to the Super Bowl in chronological order, and have purchased *ALL* of your music from iTunes ("Sincerely, Me" is rockin' my iPod as I type). You are such a talented singer and songwriter.
After watching so many vid-blogs it was really tough to wait for this new post today...but it was worth it! In the future, please don't be afraid to share even the most minute details of what you've been doing lately. We love hearing it all, and we appreciate that your blog provides us the opportunity to get to know you so well.
On that note, I have 1000 questions for you. I'll only ask a few of them now of course (this post is too long already!), and I understand if you can't answer them all...!
1. Do you usually write the lyrics or music to a new song first?
2. When you recorded the Doritos Mix of Message, did you record the vocals and guitar at the same time or separately?
3. Do you think your first Interscope release will be all new material, updated versions of the best of what you've already released, or a combo?
4. Do you plan to keep living in Austin or will you move back to CA permanently now?
5. Did you really teach yourself to play guitar, and can you read music? Do you play any other instruments?

I think it would be a good idea to move the blog to the website, it will be a lot easier for people to follow and will probably save you time jumping from site to site. A request I have would be making it RSS feed compatible. I marked this blog on my feed that way it automatically tells me when you've posted something new. It helps me keep track of the blogs I read, rather than checking them all every day. :)
Other than that, keep on doing what you're doing...I'm glad your talent and our support helped you crash the superbowl, and I am sure you'll only go onto bigger and better things.

About the video conference software.. I don't think there is software that will do a massive amount of people. I know iChat allows up to 4 people in one video conference but that wouldn't be enough. Skype only allows 2 people at one time. Maybe someone knows of another? I think after a while though the video would get so choppy that it wouldn't be very bearable. You could always have a video chat and everyone would just type, though that wouldn't really be as fun.
Also I think moving the site to kinagrannis.com would be a great idea. I know that twoweeksforkina has become very special for all of us. But it won''t make sense to new fans ;-) Also a blog that had comments done with some kind of forum software would be nice.. that way we can talk to each other in the comments a little better.

well I think it would make sense to condense to the main website. but i also think you could continue to use this one for your more personal posts and make it less advertised.
i would guess your going to be getting hit with more fans. or least people looking for you and probably find your main site other then youtube or myspace... though i am hearing facebook is becoming the next big thing.

I'm a webhosting admin, and honestly I'd recommend just having a CMS system setup (drupal/etc) and pointing all of your other domain names (twoweeksforkina) toward one (kinagrannis). Or, if you're nostalgic just keep this up and tell everyone the updated blog is on your site. You'll definitely want people able to talk/listen/view/buy on one site, though.
With any CMS you'll have the ability to have forums/media/etc, it's really what most major sites have moved to nowadays.
Definitely either archive or just throw these blog entires into it, though.
There are a few people on Stickam.com who play music for people, and they wind up pretty popular - none are celebs (ha!) though. That'd be fun!

I definitely think that merging kinagrannis.com and Two Weeks is the best idea, but perhaps keep the name for the blog for memory's sake? Then I check the blog this morning to expect a little something from you so we know your still alive and well and this is what I find! Wow, I think your secretly super women... :)
I'm glad to hear your looking into a smart phone. It will really help streamline your life and let you stay on top of everything. The actual phone you pick is a really hard choice. From what I know about you, I think that the iPhone would be a great choice. Your a Mac user so it will fit in perfectly with the rest of your electronics, it is really a great internet device, and its just super sexy.. :)
On the other hand, you will most likely be using your phone to access the internet, and whist the iPhone has that amazing safari browser, it only uses EDGE to connect to the internet. That means that it is pretty slow online unless it has access to WiFi. For faster internet on your phone the carriers like Verizon and Sprint are the way to go. In some areas AT&T has 3G cell service (that means fast internet) but I'm not sure if Austin has 3G.
In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. I would imagine that someone like you who is so hip and snazzy (haha, I'm lame) would want a stylish phone. And in that category the iPhone wins that hands down. For comparing other phones I would recommend Cnet.

Personally I would just have kinagrannis.com for the main website as a home for everything. I would also get the blog on kinagrannis.com and not use this one.
While I think that the comments on here have a sentimental value, I would still be weary of leaving this site up as I'm sure that there would be someone who will keep on coming hear expecting an update.
To make matters more complicated, keep in mind that all of the videos you have posted on YouTube have the twoweeksforkina.com at the end of the video.

I never did let you know what I thought about your idea about combining all your sites. I think you should move everything to your kinagrannis.com site. It makes the most sense. I hope Interscope doesn't try taking over and controlling how you run that site though; that would be awful.

The plan I originally suggested was to tell everyone here to migrate back on over to kinagrannis.com/blog, where a wordpress blog already exists (sign up not required, so you can post with a nickname if you wish). I also thought that eventually, maybe after a week or two, I'd have twoweeksforkina.com redirect to kinagrannis.com and then we could archive the contents of this site somewhere on her main hosting. The site itself SHOULD be run on Drupal so Kina could update it without waiting for me to be free, but I think Interscope wants to take it over (*sniff*) and they'll be able to update it as need be (no Kina required, save for her blog entries).
As for transferring all her twoweeksforkina.com entries to the wordpress blog, I'm a bit sketchy on how blog migration works between platforms. If anyone knows if that's possible, let me know, otherwise we can always just leave it up as a linked archive for posterity. :)

Stoked to hear about the show on Sunday, it will be interesting to see the turn out. I'm not taking any chances, I'm pre-ordering my tickets.
As far as the websites go it sounds like Misa has it figured out pretty well. Moving it all over to kinagrannis.com with an archive for the twoweeksforkina blog sounds like the best bet.
Get some rest and try to relax a bit (is it weird for someone who has never met you to give you friendly advice?).

P.S. Assuming the friendly advice is welcome, please be careful with the whole record label thing. Interscope has be great to a lot of artist but you have to assume they have their best interests in mind. So grab a lawyer, go over the paperwork and do be afraid to tell them what they need to change. I'm sure you have this all figured out but it never hurts to keep on your toes.

Say it isn't so. I shuddered when I read that Interscope wants to take it over. I don't mean to sound salty, but something about that feels wrong. Please understand, as long as Kina's posting, I will read and actively participate in this community. That said, I never want to question that I'm hear from Kina--not PR.

To clarify: Interscope Records won't actually have anything to do with the website, however awesome members of Kina's management group will help maintain some aspects of the site. Blogs will still be posted by Kina.
Kina's going to Texas this week to perform at a Doritos function. Sunday is her show at Hotel Cafe in LA. Next weekend she sings the National Anthem at a NASCAR race in Fontana. She's been crazy busy with meetings of various types: attorneys, BMI, song writers, producers, management, and the like. There's some hearsay that Taylor Guitars has tried to contact her (!!!) but Kina has not connected with them yet.
Regarding those CD orders.... she's yet to process all of them... and then there's the annoying problem that the CDs were placed in the wrong jewel cases ..grrrrr. Please be patient... she'll probably get to them this weekend.
The family in the video was half of the paternal side. Here's a shout-out to Kina's maternal grandmother, Kimiko, who was not featured in any Super Bowl footage, but was weeping with joy nonetheless (she has been seen harassing innocent passers-by with her laminated newspaper article about her granddaughter).

Hi Kina! my first post! I discovered you only 9 days ago during the superbowl, so I'm sorry to say I never got to vote for you everyday! But, I'm thankful that you won, and canada actually got the commercial, because you're such a talented artist and your lyrics are amazing, they make me smile even when I'm doing my assignments! I think that when your schedule is a little less hectic you need to do a show up in Vancouver, BC! or at least Seattle or anywhere in the Northwest, I'd be completely up for a road trip!
As for your websites, I don't think you should post your blog on kinagrannis.com because I see that as your main, more professional site, instead maybe where your "journal" link is, have it direct you here to twoweeksforkina. Thats just my thoughts, either way whatever you do decide, I agree with other people that you should keep this site for the sentimental value.

Here's my two cents,
1) this blog has been the grassroots connection between you and us who have done something really special with crash the superbowl which is awesome. Everyone here is really grateful to have been a part of it and especially grateful to have the chance to talk with you personally which is, by the way, really rad of you to do =). So leaving it is going to be hard, but,
2)You and all of us here know it's not really feasible to keep it up. Believe it or not, you've got a budding career and more fans than you know. Unfortunately there comes a time for change, but that will also bring new and awesome things as well. Do what you need to do and consolidate your sites. Its been awesome here in this forum, and we won't forget it, but in the end, we all want what's best for your career.
Anyway, I hope that didn't sound lecturing? It's been awesome watching the ride, and can't wait to hear more from you (p.s. come to seattle!). You are awesome, keep kickin ass =)

I couldn't disagree more, but allow me to me clarify. I understand that Kina may not be able to continue the blog forever but I will be extremely disappointed if she stops blogging anytime soon!
I really enjoy Kina's updates for several reasons. IMHO, those of involved in this process, Kina included, if not especially her, have a bond with each other that begins with the voting process and can continue to foster as her career grows.
BTW Kina, do you have an official fan club? If not, can we start one?

Looks like she has already made the decision to post future entries back to her original web site, which I agree with. Twoweeksforkina.com was/is great, but its sole purpose was to encourage votes so she could win the Dorito contest. And it worked! So sentimentality aside, it just makes sense to go back to the main blogging being done at kinagrannis.com.

i think you misinterpreted hapajon. from what i read, he never said anything about the end of kina's bloggings but just that she should "consolidate her sites", in this case move back to kinagrannis.com/blog.
it's not that we don't love this blog but it's that i think kina is spreading herself a little too thin on the online avenue. it would just be a little easier if she only had one site to worry about.
HOWEVER, i'm not liking the whole interscope-seizure of kinagrannis.com, i would be verryy upset if misa was removed from the position of webmaster (if against her will of course)
it just feels much more personal with familiar faces running everything.

Okay, here's the deal.
1) Forum: There was one, it was a phpbb forum, I didn't have time to maintain it, it got riddled with spam, I had to shut it down since I couldn't take the time to purge and resurrect it. If someone knows of a good free forum solution that has good spam protection without requiring registration (that was my problem in the beginning), please please please let me know. Back in the day she didn't have much need for a forum because she had very few people posting regularly, and they just did that on her blog, but nowadays I think a forum would be quite fitting. :)
