I don't know which video to comment on... Choices choices...

Anyways, I loved the insight into the mind and life of Kina... it was very.... Insightful!

I am curious to see what will happen to the copious amounts of comments that you have been receiving, as I think now it is past the point where you will be able to respond to them.. Truthfully I didn't expect you to, but I can still dream, right?

There are around 330 or so (if i did my math correct).. And thinking about it, if I was just played during the super bowl to 90 million people, I think I might have some more pressing issues to deal with then to reply to comments on my blog... :)

No worries, We are all still enjoying your blog tremendously! (even without the personal replies)

That was a superb montage! The interplay of intimacy and confidence in your playing and the awkwardness afterwards is part of what makes you so captivating; why so many of us are in love with you. I'm so happy for you. You rock! Soak up these amazing moments in your life!

Kina,

You are special. You are a musician who is anything but big-headed. In fact, you would probably be better served by being more confident in the talents you've been given. That said your grounded personality is cute and endearing. I watch your videos and wish I knew because I want to hang out!! lol Personally, even though you are gaining more exposure by the day, I am selfishly hoping this blog community will stay relatively small (even as your fan base grows beyond all expectations) because it gives devoted readers a way to interact with you in an intimate way that is rarely, if ever, seen with other artists.

One thing I've enjoyed over the years is being there when talent blossoms: Friends starting bands, proof-reading another friend's book, becoming a customer at another friend's new business. I suppose I'm a just a good fan, an involved one.

Kina, when you burst onto the scene with your YouTube videos, TwoWeeksForKina, and The Digg Effect, I was wondering if it was possible for me to be a "real" fan without knowing the person.

You've struck some kind of a chord (pun!). Your continual and meaningful interaction via your blog and web sites has been amazing. So many people have made comments that echoed my thoughts, that until now I haven't bothered to add one of my own.

I cried when I saw your Doritos Super Bowl ad. Not something this 51 year-old weight-training paraglider-flying engineer ever does for a commercial.

Thanks for letting me follow along on your journey.

Oh, and thanks for the music!

does anyone else have this prideful feeling like "WE DISCOVERED KINA FIRST" or is that just me?! hahahaha

i feel like we have this community feeling going here, sorta like a YMCA or whatever, but its KINA or whatever.

i dunno, when millions have heard her and are astonished, all of us here can look back and say "i was there, my child.... i was there..."

p.s. i dont have any children, i just thought i would throw "my child" for dramatic effects or for any parents on this list.

peace yo

@Mama G,

I'm not going crazy--unless you count over Kina.

@Miko

Not gonna lie, as soon as I saw what you wrote about this being like a Y, I thought of the song. Then I got mad. How are we supposed to do the K? Seems important.

@J.C. Trust me it took a long time to figure out how to say what I felt...coherently, that is.

@ajsea:
You'd have to stand sideways to do the K. One arm held high, one low like you were about to do the gator/pacman motion.

in case you missed this on the previous blog...
As you might imagine, Kina is going insane right now with so much going on with Interscope, Doritos, interviews, business decisions, not to mention that mountain of cd sales she has to pack, mail, and ship! (you have to cut her some slack on the cd shipments... she splurged some of her hard-earned contest winnings on getting the cds commercially burned, printed and encased.... and the company put the cds in the wrong jewel cases!!!!! We'll have to switch them by hand, which is quite labor-intensive and annoying since buying them was supposed to make this process EASIER)

She is anxious to edit and post her footage of Phoenix for y'all (been around Landon too much) but you're just going to have to wait a little longer.

Just to tide you over, let me say that the Grannis fam spent the weekend in Phoenix and those Doritos people and all the non-Doritos-but-also-essential-to-the-success-of-the-contest people were totally DOPE (been around Raj too long). How they amassed such amazing,cool people all on one project is inconceivable. Everyone was the nicest, coolest, most fun, most sincere, most talented, etc etc... well, you get what I'm saying...

We got to meet Nivla, P. Oberoi, DJ Sharad, producer/promoter Raj, photographer Ravi, and producer Josh who were all so much fun!! And from the Austin camp: Landon, his sister, Dani, mom, dad, aunt and uncle who were the friendliest people on earth.

Seriously, people.... Kina could not have asked for greater "competitors". These guys were absolute gems. I knew them for only 3 days and I love them all! There was some negativity amongst the fans but between the Nivla gang, Landon, and Kina, there was a lot of respect, admiration, and dare I say it? ....love.*sigh*

I want to provide more details, but I'd best leave that to Kina.
Remember: patience is a virtue.

Another thing I was thinking of before she won, I am in LA (@USC) and have access to a duplicator at work. If you wanted help burning CD's, I'd gladly offer... give me blanks and I can easily bust out 200+ on a Saturday while I work on my paper.

Don't know if she'd need it now, sounds like you have another solution... but just peep if you're interested at all.

I do tax compliance and consulting work for all types of clients (c corps, partnerships, and high net worth individuals) so yeah... just offering that in case she needs to sort out all the income she makes from playing in various states throughout the country and from experience filing state tax returns can be a huge pain in the buttocks!!

I noticed no one has found the young-kina videos on your youtube account yet... I'll keep it a secret :o)

ps. Since we're going city pride, Boulder, CO rocks! Though we're about to be blown away with 70mph wind gusts.

@Miko

Hammer could've used you back in the day.

Kina better not end up in the same situation but even if she did, with this many friends/fans, she could def find a couch to crash on. lol

I gotta say everyone in this community (special props to KINA and Grannis clan, of course is crazy entertaining.

@ Mama G or Misa or other family member

What is favorite funny Kina memory/story?

Misa,

I love how matter-of-factly you told your mom about what you did. You were positive you made her prettier all because the Superman curl was no more. Poor young, impressionable Kina, she thought her big sister was doing something nice for her. (Sorry, Misa, what you did wasn't that bad but I'm the youngest five kids so I have stick up for Kina. I don't think you should've necessarily been in trouble either. The hair grew back! You don't have a picture of the haircut, do you? Would love to see it.

ajsea--

When I was little and kina was littler, she used to have a single superman curl that hung down in the middle of her forehead. Maybe because I was jealous, maybe because I watched one too many "Haircut Magic" Cabbage Patch Kid commercials, maybe because I was (and am) just a weird kid, one day I marched up to my mom and announced, "Mommy I made Kina pretty!" Kina walked proudly into the room behind me, beaming as she showed off her new trim. Guess what was missing?

Needless to say, I got in trouble.

I'm sure my mom has a picture somewhere. (I deleted and reposted the comment because of poor grammar.) And yeah, poor Kina, she was so proud, she had no idea. There are other "poor kina" stories, but I really don't think she (or my mother) wants them made public. :P

@ ajsea and misa

careful... you're treading on some thin ice here.....

and to be precise, it was not one Superman curl, it was 3 Superman curls (or maybe 5, I can't quite remember... I'll have to look at old photos) that quite defined her look. Removing them (in their entirety, I might add) was like removing someone's eyebrows... her face looked quite bald. There is little question that the act was spurred by mischievous malice... but that is the nature of sibling rivalry, especially at that young age.

It is interesting to note that Emi is the only one who cuts (is allowed to cut?) Kina's hair these days..... hmmmm......

@Mama G,

I tend to skate on thin ice, often with a match in hand. That said, as long as I don't make Kina cry or give her a reason to yell at me (talk about a nightmare), I won't feel too bad. Besides, although the story is funny/cute, it is hardly anything to be embarrassed about. (After all, everyone has a bad haircut, right? Long story short, Kina shouldn't worry.) Anyway, we all love her for the person she is now and won't judge her for the bad haircut she was given so vindictively *cough*Misa*cough*

Somehow, if after all that, Kina still doesn't like that you told me that story, I'll happily share one of my own.

Alan loves the Grannis fam!

why am i still up???

haha... i wasn't gonna comment because i already exceeded my 2 comment limit per blog today.

but! i just read the phrase by mama g that said "Removing them (in their entirety, I might add) was like removing someone's eyebrows... her face looked quite bald."

i would have to disagreee...

you see, when i was 13 years old (God that is still not young enough for the following story) i wanted to trim my eyebrows for some strange reason, but i did it with an electric trimmer. crazy thing that happened was i trimmed one whole line off.. (let me just go long on this story, i've already am getting into it again haha)
i trimmed like basically a line in the middle of my left eyebrow... which looked crazy weird, or in cali terms HELLA WEIRD.

so what did i do to solve that weirdness, I SHAVED OFF MY WHOLE LEFT EYEBROW! (i was 13!!! EEEK, that's still not young enough, no matter how hard i try to convince myself)
THEN - what else... I SHAVED MY ENTIRE RIGHT EYEBROW!!!

dude, i straight up looked like an alien. cloverfield was in my bedroom. i was a freak.. omg that was so bad.

my mom wasn't home yet, i was scheduled to get a haircut that day. what do i do, i wear this cheap karate kid bandana across my eyebrows you know since i wear that daily haha (that was the first time i wore that) so i am wearing a bandana hoping to avoid any questions related to "why are you wearing a bandana headband around your eyebrows" from my sister and or my mom...

so i get to the haircut place, the barber lady sits me down takes off my headband bandanda thing (why do they have to do that?!?! good barbers just adjust... in my eyes..)

so she takes it off and laughs at me, like "hey... you shaved... your... eye.. brows... hehehe"

my sister comes over who was by my mom reading a magazine in the waiting area, comes over and sees the little commotion and looks at my eyebrows and i go "please please please, DONT TELL MOM please"

when the haircut is done, i put the bandana on (i still canNOT believe my mom has yet to ask, how awesome am i?!? hahaha)

as we walk to the car, my mom and sister are walking in front of me 10 feet... i see my sister whisper something to my mom... what does my mom do, STOPS DEAD IN HER TRACKS, TURNS AROUND, AND SAYS "TAKE OFF YOUR HEADBAND"

i take it off... that car ride home was the worst.

my mom chased me around the living room and hit me in the head with a spoon hahahaha

the end.

i will just end up copying and pasting this for my own blog hahahaha that was awesome, i never told or typed this story publicly at all! praise the Lord for memorable moments in my life...

in conclusion mama g- cutting off kina's 3 curls is NOTHING like shaving your eyebrows.

sorry, hahahahahahahaha
